Sawicki Motors: 2011 Cadillac CTS -V Coupe!!! 6.2L supercharged V8 power, 556 horsepower

Just off the truck...2011 CTS -V Coupe!!! 6.2L supercharged V8 power, 556 horsepower

Balancing performance with luxury in a very affordable package, we were suitably impressed with the 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe when we drove it a few weeks ago in Napa Valley. Now you, too, can check one out for yourself, as the car is already headed to dealerships across the country.

The release is actually a bit ahead of schedule, letting the CTS Coupe hit right at the peak of summer--the perfect time for cruising in style. Starting at $38,990, the car won't break the bank, even though it looks like it would.

Despite the early release, Cadillac is banking on the Lansing Grand River plant's top marks in the 2010 J.D. Power Initial Quality Survey as well as their own quality analysis to ensure the cars delivered meet expectations.

One thing to consider if you're after a CTS Coupe, however, is that the somewhat oddball seatback "bump" we've noticed in several CTS models isn't due for replacement with a redesigned seat until sometime this fall, so you may want to hold off. On the other hand, you may not find it objectionable at all--some don't notice or don't mind the mild protrusion in the upper third of the seatback caused by the advanced active headrests. But it's worth being aware of if you're in the market.

Just in: 2011 Chevrolet Traverse Awd 2LT

Just in: 2011 Chevrolet Traverse Awd 2LT

Ace of spades? Chevrolet Traverse becomes the fourth—and perhaps best—card in GM’s game-winning hand in the crossover game. Saving the best for last might not have been GM’s intention when it finally introduced the fourth and final version of its acclaimed Lambda full-size crossovers—the others being the Buick Enclave, the Saturn Outlook, and the GMC Acadia—but after our short first drive of the 2009 Chevrolet Traverse, that seems to be the case.

The Traverse we first saw at the 2008 Chicago auto show was clean and classy, and the production version enters virtually unchanged, save for an ever-so-slight reshape of the headlamp lenses to claim a segment-best 0.33 coefficient of drag. Not accidentally, the Traverse’s fascia bears a resemblance to that of the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, which is great-looking itself. Other nice details include an upswept rear window, flush-mounted roof rails, and mirrors with LED turn signals on LT and LTZ models. read more...

Just off the truck - 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe at Sawicki Rochelle

Just off the truck - 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe at Sawicki Rochelle.

Although most Cadillac vehicles still have a way to go to satisfy as drivers’ machines, the second-generation CTS has appeared on our past three 10Best lists. In awarding its 2010 trophy, we called it “maybe the best American car ever made.” High praise, and its combination of unapologetically brash styling, modern luxury, and strong performance credentials—especially in high-po V spec—backs it up. For 2011, the new CTS coupe joins the sedan and wagon, adding more style and a higher concentration of performance to the CTS’s winning formula.

The CTS coupe is one of those cars that love the camera, and it’s no less stunning in the flesh. Walking around the car, one notices several aspects of the design easily missed in photographs, such as the parallel “light catcher” lines helping to break up the tall body sides, the tastefully glitzy twin center-mounted tailpipes, the remarkably seamless-looking joint between the body-side stamping and the roof, and the center spine that travels all the way back over the car’s huge rump. The windshield is two degrees “faster” up front than the sedan’s, and the razor-sharp taillamps and the CHMSL spoiler also have aerodynamic-enhancing properties. The only unfortunate bits are credit-card-sized spacer panels above the recessed, solenoid-actuated door releases; they mar an otherwise perfect waistline. In any case, there is visual drama from every angle, and it works.

Chevrolet Cruze 2LT 1.4L TURBO at Sawicki Rochelle

Fresh off the truck at Sawicki Rochelle...2011 Chevrolet Cruze 2LT 1.4L TURBO!!

In the small car big leagues, Chevrolet has never had a competitive player. The mediocre Cobalt (SS version excepted) and the generally terrible Cavalier that preceded it were doomed to dwell in the minors as rivals consistently outperformed them in key areas such as overall build quality and performance. But unlike those farm team disappointments, the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze is ready for the show.

Breaking with the small Chevy tradition of offering a larger-than-average engine in a small car, the Cruze offers a pair of fuel-efficient yet peppy small power plants. Whether you get the 1.8-liter non-turbocharged inline-4 or the 1.4-liter turbo mill, you'll get class-competitive performance along with the promise of high fuel economy.

The Cruze's handling is also notably sharper than the Cobalt's and its interior is light-years ahead in terms of quality and styling. In terms of features, even the base Cruze LS comes pretty well equipped, with 10 airbags being one notable standard equipment highlight. The Cruze is also quite roomy (the EPA actually classifies it as a midsize car), though rear seat comfort is only so-so for taller folks.

Even so, Chevrolet has done a lot right here. When compared to this segment's traditional leaders, the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla, the Cruze is fully competitive (or even better) in terms of design and driving dynamics. Certainly, you'll still want to check out the few other big hitters in this group such as the all-new Ford Focus, the value-oriented Hyundai Elantra, the feisty Mazda 3 and the refined Volkswagen Jetta. But the fact that we're saying "other big hitters" in reference to the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze speaks well of this competent new player.

What Edmunds.com says:
After decades of toiling in the minor leagues, Chevrolet makes it to the show with its much improved compact sedan entry, the 2011 Cruze.

Pros:
Peppy yet efficient turbocharged engine, sharp steering and handling, upscale interior design, giant trunk.

Cons:
Some chintzy interior pieces, low rear seat cushion.

What's New for 2011:
The 2011 Chevrolet Cruze is an all-new small sedan that replaces the aged Cobalt.

The Holiday Helping Hands Program

By Jim Kilchermann
The Journal-Standard
Posted Dec 19, 2009 @ 08:58 PM
Freeport, Ill. —

While some businesses talk about holiday spirit, on Saturday, Dec, 19, 2009, the team at Sawicki Motors led by example. The Holiday Helping Hands Program has been a Sawicki Motors tradition for the past 20 years at the Rochelle dealership. When the Sawicki dealership opened in Freeport in 2003, owner Dan Sawicki brought the holiday tradition to Freeport.

The program offers free service on vehicles for one day every year and is a great success, said dealership owner Dan Sawicki.

"We average about 10 cars each time we do this", Sawicki said.

The vehicles belong to people in the community who are having difficulty affording vehicle maintenance. Repairs performed during the program range from brake jobs and radiator repairs to steering rack replacement and tire service.

Sawicki is proud that every employee at the dealership contributes in some way to the program.
“We do not do this alone, we have help from many of our suppliers and local agencies,” Sawicki said.

The process begins with a referral from a local agency, such as VOICES or Workforce Employment Solutions. Once selected to be serviced, the vehicles are brought to the dealership by their owners. Alber Towing and Recovery has towed non-running vehicles to the dealership in the past. The vehicles are brought into the service bay, and technicians perform diagnostic and visual inspections to assess their needs.

Repairs made by Sawicki mechanics are intended to make the vehicles safe and functional. It is a rare occurrence, but there have been times when a vehicle was simply beyond repair, or repairs would not have made the vehicle reliable for very long. In those instances, Sawicki presented the car’s owner with a more mechanically sound vehicle.

"It wasn’t a new car, but it was better mechanically than the one they had", Sawicki said.

A walk through the service area Saturday morning was met with the sounds of mechanics hard at work on a vast array of vehicles from Toyota compacts to Oldsmobile mini-vans. While vehicles being worked on in a service area is not an uncommon sight, there was an added feeling of good cheer as the mechanics eagerly applied their skills to make life better for those in need.

It is easy to see why Sawicki is proud of his employees.
